[ad_1]

  • Darmstadt have drawn eight of their 13 home league games this term
  • St Pauli extended their unbeaten run to five with last weekend’s 1-0 win at home to Nuremberg
  • Just three points separate Darmstadt in seventh and St Pauli in ninth

Darmstadt have a point to prove

Darmstadt disappointed in last weekend’s Bundesliga II return, failing to register a shot on target in a limp 2-0 defeat at second-bottom Karlsruher, and could be worth opposing at home to St Pauli.

Michael Stegmayer’s men had been on a ten-game unbeaten streak but put in a laboured display against a relegation-threatened Karlsruher, who had picked up just one point from their previous five home league encounters.

Darmstadt are just three points and two places better off than St Pauli in the German second tier, but there was far more encouragement to be taken from the visitors’ return to action.

St Pauli extended their unbeaten run to five with a 1-0 home win over Nuremberg last weekend and should be the more confident of the two ahead of their meeting in Hesse.

St Pauli can offer stiff resistance

Darmstadt are the division’s draw specialists having shared the spoils in 12 of their 26 league games and may settle for a similar outcome as they bid to bounce back from last weekend’s lacklustre performance.

Eight of those stalemates have been recorded from just 13 home league games, with their only defeat coming against league leaders Arminia Bielefeld.

St Pauli have been far more reliable at home – 25 of their 33 points have been claimed there – but they have shared the spoils in five of their 12 away encounters and are capable of offering stiff resistance.

Goals may be in short supply

It took an 80th-minute strike from Icelandic midfielder Victor Palsson to give Darmstadt a 1-0 win when these two sides met in October and their rematch could be another settled by the finest of margins.

Only bottom club Dynamo Dresden have scored fewer than Darmstadt’s 31-goal haul this season, while St Pauli have netted just 13 times in 12 away games – an average of 1.08 per game.

Under 2.5 goals has landed in eight of Darmstadt’s 13 games at home (38 per cent) – no team has witnessed fewer low-scoring contests – and that trend looks likely to continue.

Given both teams have scored in only one of the previous seven meetings and there is little to separate the pair, punters should also take a chance on a goalless draw at the prices available.
