If playoff-chasing Erzgebirge Aue fail to land a top-six berth in Bundesliga 2 this season it will be as a result of their dire away record.
While Aue have won nine of their 13 matches at home, where they have collected 30 points this campaign, they have won only once on their travels this season and picked up only seven points.
They are on a dismal run of five defeats in in their last six away matches in Bundesliga 2, losing to strugglers such as Dynamo Dresden and Wehen Wiesbaden as well as highfliers Stuttgart and mid-table Hannover and Bochum outfits.
Regardless of the quality of opposition they seem to struggle away from home and early predictions suggest that this could provide relegation-threatened Nuremberg with a lifeline when the sides clash in the second tier.
Nuremberg are only one place and one point above the relegation playoff position, having won only seven of their 26 league encounters this campaign, but they have improved in the second half of the season.
Since 20 December, Nuremberg have beaten Dynamo Dresden, Sandhausen, Osnabruck and Karlsruhe to enhance their chances of staying afloat and their emphasis on defence could help them pull off a shock win over Aue.
They have since tightened up a touch at the back but earlier this season Nuremberg pushed Aue close in a 4-3 defeat in the reverse fixture and with home advantage on their side this time around they should claim all three points.
Before the hiatus, Aue had dropped points against other sides battling the drop such as Osnabruck and Dynamo Dresden, both in matches away from home.
Interestingly all seven of Nuremberg’s Bundesliga 2 wins this season have been to nil this season and six of those games have also featured under 2.5 goals.
They have won by a 1-0 scoreline on four occasions this season and, given they are playing a promotion-chasing side, they are expected to play more conservatively and hope for a narrow win so a home win and a 1-0 correct score prediction looks an attractive proposition.
