Jahn Regensburg and Holstein Kiel are separated by just two points in the Bundesliga 2, but the hosts have had little to cheer about this calendar year with five of their seven matches resulting in defeat.
20 of their 32 points have been picked up at the Arena Regensburg but playing behind closed doors, which traditionally has been used as a punishment for home teams, has to be factored.
Jahn Regensburg have been traditionally fast starters on home turf, grabbing the opening goal in nine of their 12 games, and are unlikely to be kept completely quiet having failed to score in only one of those matches.
However, they have been victorious in just one of their last ten meetings against Holstein Kiel, who boast the division’s second-best away form with six wins and two draws from their 13 road trips.
Over 2.5 goals has landed in ten of Holstein Kiel’s 13 away league matches this term, with 44 goals – at an average of 3.4 per game – scored in total.
The visitors have averaged 1.77 goals per game on their travels and they have netted exactly twice in five of their last six away matches.
Regensburg were 2-1 winners when these sides locked horns in Kiel earlier in the season and although Ole Werner’s men are fancied to fare far better this time around, it is a match that should still reward goal backers.
Six of Holstein Kiel’s nine league wins have been recorded by a one-goal margin, with five of them resulting in 2-1 victories.
Four of Regensburg’s last five home games have also been settled by one goal and having lost their last two league games 2-1, they could be on the end of another narrow defeat.
