Nuremberg are on the fringes of the Bundesliga 2 relegation positions but their pursuit of survival could be handed a boost when they take on Jahn Regensburg, who are locked in mid-table obscurity.
Nuremberg earned a decent point against promotion hopefuls Erzgebirge Aue in a 1-1 draw in the German second tier last time out and, although they have found wins hard to come by, four of their seven league victories this term have come on the road.
They have, in fact, lost only one of their previous four away matches, winning two against Osnabruck and Karslruher.
Both of those sides are below Jahn Regensburg in the table but Nuremberg can draw optimism from the poor form of their midweek opponents.
Jahn Regensburg have failed to win any of their previous five matches and have lost five of their last eight matches in the Bundesliga 2. Their only success in that run was a 1-0 win over lowly Wehen Wiesbaden.
Goals have also been a cause for concern – no Regensburg player has reached double figures in the league this season, with Marco Gruttner and Andreas Albers, who have each netted seven goals, the club’s top scorers in 2019/20.
Their lack of firepower in the final third is reflected by the fact they have failed to score in four of their previous eight league assignments and they were held to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture with Nuremberg back in October.
Nuremberg, meanwhile, have failed to score in only two of their 13 away matches, which is the lowest percentage (15 per cent) in the division despite their lowly league position.
They have scored consolation goals away to the likes of Hamburg, Stuttgart, Bochum and Erzgebirge Aue this season and should therefore be confident of finding the net and taking the spoils, enhancing the appeal of our prediction of a Nuremberg win here.
Interestingly, though, all seven of Nuremberg’s wins in the Bundesliga 2 this season have been to nil and their last four matches have featured a total of seven goals, meaning punters should consider backing a low-scoring contest when it comes to the correct score market.
They have won 1-0 four times in the league this season and that could be the best punt in terms of a correct score prediction, especially against a Regensburg outfit who have failed to score more than two goals in any of their last nine matches and are struggling for stability.
