Osnabruck rescued a point in injury-time at runaway Bundesliga II leaders Arminia Bielefeld last weekend and may hold some sort of match fitness edge over their visitors Hannover, who had their opening fixture with Dynamo Dresden postponed.
Daniel Thioune’s hosts are without a win in nine but the break appeared to freshen them up at table toppers Arminia, where they were well worth their point after winning the shot count 10-6.
A strong second-half performance coincided with the introduction of top scorer Marcos Alvarez, who took his league tally to 11 with the equaliser, and his expected return to the starting line-up should benefit them from the first whistle.
Osnabruck have been wildly inconsistent this term but they have recorded home wins over Hamburg (second) and Stuttgart (third) this season and could be better prepared for this showdown than their guests.
Hannover headed into lockdown on the back of consecutive wins over Holstein Kiel and Nuremberg and it is worth noting that they boast the third-best away form in the division having returned 19 points from 13 away games.
However, they are only two points better off than Osnabruck and, unlike their hosts, haven’t played a competitive fixture since early March.
Despite their success away from home, Hannover have lost three of their last five away contests and have dropped points at bottom-half trio Karlsruher, Bochum and Jahn Regensburg.
The Reds could manage only a goalless draw when hosting Osnabruck in October and at the current prices it’s difficult to see them bettering that result here.
Both teams have scored in seven of Osnabruck’s last nine matches and with only one clean sheet in 13 that record should be extended.
Hannover have taken a first-half lead in six of their 13 away assignments but Osnabruck, who have the benefit of a recent match, have scored in the final 15 minutes in three of their last five league games. They could finish the game stronger and in-play punters should take note.
Those looking for a correct score should opt for a 2-1 Osnabruck victory. Only three of Hannover’s 13 away assignments have featured four or more goals, while four of their six away league defeats have been by a single goal.
